Changes to vascular services

The NHS is asking for your thoughts about the future of vascular services in Kent & Medway
changes to vascular services

When the NHS talks about vascular services, they mean the procedures to unblock, reconstruct or bypass arteries. It's a very specialised service and requires expert care.

Currently vascular services are offered at Medway Maritime Hospital and Kent & Canterbury Hospital.

The NHS wants your views on their plans to bring all vascular surgery that requires an overnight stay, to Kent & Canterbury Hospital. Day surgery would remain at both hospitals.

Inpatient Vascular Centre

During the pandemic, emergency vascular surgery was moved temporarily to Kent & Canterbury. This proposal would formalise this move and see the creation of an Inpatient Vascular Centre at Kent & Canterbury Hospital.

What does it mean if I live in North or West Kent?

If you live in North Kent, you will continue to receive vascular surgery in London. The same applies for people who use Tunbridge Wells Hospital. Patients who use Maidstone, would go to the new Vascular Centre for overnight surgery.

How can I share you my thoughts?

This is a complex proposal and all the details can be found here

A public consultation will run until March 15th.

Four public meetings are being held online so you can hear more details and ask questions:

Feb 9th     5-7pm

Feb 22nd  10am - 12

March 1st  10am - 12

March 8th   11am - 1pm
